Pakistan Government Orders Cricket Team to Boycott India Match at ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Sparking Global Cricket Controversy

In an unprecedented decision that has sent shockwaves through international cricket, the Government of Pakistan has confirmed that although the national side will compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, it will boycott its high-profile group match against India scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. The squad was granted official permission to travel and play in the tournament, which begins on February 7 with matches hosted in Sri Lanka and India. However, authorities in Islamabad explicitly directed Pakistan’s players not to take the field against arch-rivals India, a move that amounts to a forfeit and hands India two points. The International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed serious concern, warning that such a boycott “undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competition” and could have damaging long-term effects on the global game. The governing body has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reconsider its stance and highlighted the importance of adhering to tournament commitment
