Senegal Defeat Morocco to Win Second Afcon Title After Dramatic Final Stoppage

Senegal claimed their second Africa Cup of Nations title after beating hosts Morocco in a dramatic final overshadowed by controversy. With the match goalless in stoppage time, referee Jean Jacques Ndala awarded Morocco a penalty following a VAR review, prompting Senegal players to temporarily leave the pitch in protest after an earlier goal had been disallowed. After a 17-minute delay, Senegal returned, encouraged by captain Sadio Mane. Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, his weak Panenka saved by Edouard Mendy, before Pape Gueye scored early in extra time to seal a 1-0 victory. Senegal coach Pape Thiaw later apologised for ordering his team off the field, while Morocco coach Walid Regragui and Fifa president Gianni Infantino condemned the scenes. Despite the controversy, Senegal secured their second Afcon crown in five years.
