Bangladesh Make History with 2-0 Test Series Whitewash Over Pakistan

Bangladesh completed a historic 2-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan after securing a thrilling 78-run victory on the final morning of the second Test in Sylhet. The win marked Bangladesh’s first-ever home Test series whitewash against Pakistan and highlighted the team’s growing strength in red-ball cricket. Chasing a challenging target of 437, Pakistan resumed day five on 316/7, needing another 121 runs with three wickets remaining. Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan showed resistance early in the morning session, briefly keeping Pakistan’s hopes alive with an important partnership. However, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto managed his bowlers brilliantly and continued to trust spinner Taijul Islam, who delivered the breakthrough by dismissing Sajid Khan after a short interruption in play. From that point, Bangladesh took full control of the match. Taijul Islam once again proved decisive, finishing with outstanding figures of 6/120 in 34.2 overs. He also claimed the final wicket as Khurram Shahzad was caught at long-on, sparking huge celebrations among the Sylhet crowd and Bangladesh players. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs. Mohammad Rizwan fought hard with a brilliant 94 off 166 balls, while Salman Agha and Shan Masood both scored 71, but their efforts were not enough against Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack. Alongside Taijul’s six-wicket haul, Nahid Rana picked up two wickets, while Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added one each. Bangladesh’s victory was built on strong recoveries in both innings. After collapsing to 116/6 in the first innings, Litton Das rescued the hosts with a magnificent 126 to guide them to 278. In the second innings, Mushfiqur Rahim starred with a superb 137, supported by important contributions from Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Litton Das, helping Bangladesh post 390 and set Pakistan a difficult fourth-innings target. The series win represents another major milestone for Bangladesh cricket and reflects the team’s growing consistency with both bat and ball in the longest format.
